More subdivision proposals headed our way...
As we enter September and leaves hint to the close of summer, public hearings continue to roll on. Last week, our County Commissioners handed off another unanimous denial to an ill prepared application for a poorly planned large subdivision. Like many coming before them, this proposed development (Northern Lights) was smack dab in the middle of our Natural Resources Overlay, Big Game Migration Corridor, and within Sharptail Grouse Breeding Habitat. The subpar natural resource analysis, submitted by the applicant's representative, was based on walking the property for a few hours one day (yes, ONE day) and using an outdated Boise database for data citations. Commissioners were not impressed. The applicant's representative also submitted an in-house traffic study that led to much confusion and was focused on routing future homeowners to Rexbug and Idaho Falls. The traffic study led to many questions from Commissioners. And again, Commissioners were not impressed. After thoughtful deliberation, Northern Lights was rightfully, DENIED.
This is the 4th large subdivision proposed in the County that has been denied since March.
We thank our Commissioners and County/City Staff for staying the course, representing our community, and continuously standing firm against disrespectful and irresponsible development proposals. It's not over yet!
With so much gratitude,
Niki, Anna, Emily, Alena, and the VARD Board
